Suzy,
your laptop does not work with an external monitor, it means that your laptop does not work well, and you have to send it to repair shops. By the way, I don't know your screen can work well or not.

I have a HP 17 inch laptop. My son broke the screen. We bought a compatible screen but we can't get it to go on. We can't find the inverter hookup on this computer. It's is not in the same place as the other computers shown. also it will not work with an external monitor either. Please help

I installed screen...and all seems to be working...except I still have about a 3" vertical black column on the right side of the LCD display screen? Is this a faulty screen...or is there something I need to do to adjust this?
