Generally, there are some cases that the laptop LCD screen become white:
- Video cable and LCD screen loose connection
- The LCD screen itself has defective
- There’s some problems on its motherboard.
As the LCD screen turned white, there is no image on the laptop, showed as the picture.

Please check the video cable connection first. Mostly s the laptop screen may turn white because of poor connection between the video cable and the LCD screen. Reconnecting the video cable may fix your problem. It means that you have to take apart the LCD screen.

If reconnecting the video cable and LCD screen does not work, please make a test with another working LCD screen, identifying what the problem is, on LCD screen or the motherboard. So the laptop screen needs to disconnect the inverter and video cable, and reconnect to another working LCD screen. If it works, the problem is on the LCD screen. If it’s not, the problem relates to motherboard.

If you cannot judge what the problem is for the time being, you can still use an external monitor. Please connect the monitor to the VGA port on the back or side of laptop and then switch the video output from internal to external mode.

Please note that different brand products may have their own key combinations to toggle modes . For example, Toshima laptops: Fn+F5 keys, IBM laptops Fn+F7, HP laptops Fn+F4. On some laptops, you may need to connect it to the laptop and restart the laptop so the external monitor is detected by the laptop, then can be used.
Replacing the broken LCD screen in the laptop, but the new LCD screen is not working, that often happen in some cases. What’s the problem?
Now, please make sure that your new LCD screen is compatible with the old one. Different screens require different video cables, so it’s very important whether the new screen is compatible with your laptop.
Then, please check all cable connections again. Check connection between the video cable, LCD screen and inverter board. Reconnect cables just in case. Take a closer look at the connection between the video cable and LCD screen. It’s likely that you accidentally pulled the video cable from the connector during the screen installation.

The video cable need seating properly, all the way down.

Also, on some older LCD screens there are very thin pins inside the connector. Take a look inside the connector, make sure there are no damaged (bent) pins.
You can straighten bent pins with a very small screwdriver but this procedure requires a lot of patience and concentration.
Fortunately, most newer LCDs have a different type of connector, without fragile pins inside.
OK, you have reseated all connectors and cannot see anything wrong but the new screen still is not working. What’s next?
Remove the new screen and connect the old one. If the old one works properly (except the damaged area) but the new one is dead, apparently the new screen is defective and has to be replaced.

What is LCD screen resolution? And, what are the different LCD screen resolutions for laptop and tablet PC computers?
Laptop and tablet PC computers come in many different resolutions. Resolution is defined as the number of pixels or small dots that make up an LCD screen. The pixel is the smallest unit that makes up an image. Most screens sold today are TFT active matrix LCD screens. TFT active matrix is a technology in which each pixel has a transistor attached to it to control the backlight shining through it. Each pixel is made up of 3 sub-pixels (red, green and blue) with each having its own transistor. Each of these pixels turns on and off and filters light through colored sub-pixels which results in an image. The more pixels or higher the resolution a screen is the crisper the image. In addition, higher resolution screens allow more of an image to be viewable. Read the rest of this entry »
