Acer has unveiled the 3D-powered Aspire Z5763 all-in-one desktop, and it’s not often that the maker boasts that the computer will “open the doors” to plain old “fun.”

Acer Aspire 4820TG, as the second generation of Aspire T series, has transited to Intel Capella in hardware and adopted standard CPU instead of ULV processor which results in excellent performance and acceptable price. Since there is no ULV processor, we may worry about whether Acer Aspire 4820TG could inherit Aspire T series’ long battery life. Now we are about to disassemble Aspire 4820TG and have a test on it.

Disassembly

First of all, we remove the battery and D cover from Acer 4820TG. In order to take down the drive, we are ready to dismantle the screws from drive.

Then we continue to dismantle the wireless network card, hard drive and memory. When all the screws are removed, Acer 4820TG D side disassembly has finished.

We turn to C side of Acer 4820TG. There is a row of hidden buckles stuck on the C side cover. So we can pry the keyboard through those hidden buckles.

At the same time, don’t forget to disconnect the flat cable as it is also connected to the mainboard.

When we take down the keyboard, we find that Acer 4820TG floating keyboard provides with either too good or too bad handfeel.

Having removed the keyboard, we have to disassemble the remaining exposed screws from C side.

And then we begin to dismantle Acer 4820TG mainboard by unscrewing the three screws and take down the mainboard.

We test Acer Aspire 4820TG battery life by MobileMark 2007. In accordance with the recommendations of MobileMark, we closed the wireless card and Bluetooth. Uninstall the antivirus software, with Acer power management software only. At last, we got the result of nearly 7 hours.

System Evaluation and Core Hardware Test

We install Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Version 6.1.7600 edition OS to process test, which include system evaluation, SYSmark2007 Preview, Mobilemark2007 and PCMark Vantange several testing software.

Windows experience index is based on the laptop performance including processor, memory, graphics, game performance, primary hard disk, which can help users quickly judge the system balance and the basic representation of each subsystem.

In system evaluation, Acer Aspire One AO721 final result is 3.4, and the graphics treatment become the bottleneck, which may influence the speed in running AERO or other Windows desktop effects. However, the result of game graphics show us that HD 4225 graphics card has a certain game performance in some simple and low laden 3D game application demand.
While K125 processor high dominant frequency is the key reason for the high result. 1.7GHz dominant frequency has 5.0 score, whose advantages will be showed in some application with processor requirement. HDD also gets 5.7 high score which attributes to SATA-II interface, 3.0Gbps 5400 RPM.

In overall performance testing, we mainly use SYSmark2007 Preview, PCMark Vantange and SiSoftware Sandra Professional v2009 to test Acer Aspire One AO721.

In PCMark Vantage overall test, Acer Aspire One AO721 score 1827 shows that it can meet most mainstream family entertainment demand. In class test, Memories, TV and Movie and Gaming scores which direct at family entertainment are lower than the official application Communication and Productivity. While in Comprehensive hardware, the weakness is still the single-core K125 processor display card, whose shortages cause the low testing result.

Display System Test

We choose 3D Mark to test Acer Aspire One AO721 screen. For HD 4225 integrated display card, Acer Aspire One AO721 score is fairly normal. 1368 overall score and 1420 GPU result indicates that Acer Aspire One AO721 general graphics treatment performance and ability in running some 3D games and lower requirement of daily 3D or official applications.

Acer Aspire One AO721 lasts 296 minutes in productivity test, 183 minutes in DVD playing, 350 minutes  in reading setting. Considering 6-cell battery in Acer Aspire One AO721, we were quite satisfied with this result. After a few battery optimizations, it’s not difficult to reach 6 or 7 hours battery life, which can meet most users’ usage demand in one day.

The highest and average temperature in the rear cover is 43.6 ℃ and 40.5 ℃, which are both higher than human normal temperature. Even for a short time in the knee, users can feel the heat.
